A Fire Safety Audit is a systematic evaluation of a building's fire safety measures conducted by licensed fire safety auditors or the Fire Department. Penalties for operating without a valid Fire NOC include: fines ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹5,00,000 depending on the state, sealing or closure of the premises by the Fire Department, cancellation of occupancy certificate and trade license, criminal prosecution in case of fire incidents with imprisonment up to 3 years, and rejection of insurance claims for non-compliant buildings.
Many states now offer online Fire NOC applications through their Fire Department portals or integrated single-window clearance systems. Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat have online submission portals. However, the physical site inspection by the Fire Department remains mandatory before Final NOC issuance.
