What is RERA Agent Registration?

RERA Agent Registration is the statutory registration mandated under Section 9 of the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016 for every real estate agent operating in India. A "real estate agent" is defined under Section 2(zm) as any person who negotiates or acts on behalf of one person in a transaction of transfer of plot, apartment, or building in a real estate project, for remuneration, fees, or any other charges.

The registration is obtained from the State RERA Authority where the agent operates. Each state has its own RERA body - MahaRERA for Maharashtra, UP-RERA for Uttar Pradesh, K-RERA for Karnataka, HRERA for Haryana, and so on. The agent must apply on the state portal, submit prescribed documents, pay the registration fees, and obtain approval within the statutory timeline.

Once registered, the agent receives a RERA Registration Certificate with a unique RERA number, valid for 5 years. This number must be quoted in every advertisement, sale document, and communication related to real estate. The agent must comply with obligations under Section 10 and any contravention can lead to penalties under Section 59 or revocation under Section 9(6).

RERA Agent vs RERA Project Registration:

RERA Agent Obligations Under Section 10:
