About Y Combinator
Y Combinator (YC) is the world's best-known startup accelerator, founded in 2005 by Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston, Trevor Blackwell, and Robert Tappan Morris. Based in San Francisco, it has funded over 5,600 startups with a combined valuation above $600 billion, running two batches a year and accepting hundreds of startups per batch from around the world, and its alumni network includes some of the most valuable technology companies ever built.
As an early-stage accelerator, YC pairs seed funding with intensive mentorship and access to a powerful founder network, and its three-month programme culminates in Demo Day, where batch companies pitch to hundreds of leading venture capitalists and angels. Each accepted startup receives a standard $500,000 investment, $125,000 for 7% equity plus $375,000 on an uncapped SAFE, and during the programme founders get weekly dinners with talks from accomplished entrepreneurs, office hours with YC partners, and a deep library of startup resources. YC also runs a late-stage YC Continuity programme for growth-stage alumni and the free YC Startup School for pre-accelerator founders.
Its alumni include Airbnb, Stripe, DoorDash, Coinbase, Instacart, Dropbox, Twitch, Reddit, and Cruise, and it has funded a growing set of India-focused startups, among them Razorpay, Meesho, ClearTax, and Khatabook. Technical founders building scalable products at the pre-seed or seed stage are the ideal candidates, across sectors and geographies but favouring teams with strong technical co-founders, a working product, and a large market; Indian founders able to relocate to San Francisco for the batch and building for global or large domestic markets fit well.
