R-ABI, the RKVY-RAFTAAR Agri Business Incubator, is the agripreneurship arm of the agriculture ministry's flagship Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana scheme (the full name covers Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation). Its job is to thicken the country's agribusiness incubation base by sanctioning R-ABIs at agricultural universities, ICAR institutes, IITs, and veterinary research centres, and together these form a federated network of 50-plus incubators running identical tracks under one framework; hosts include IIT (BHU) Varanasi, Kerala Agricultural University, IGKV Raipur, ANGRAU, Anand Agricultural University, and IVRI Bareilly.
Three standardised programmes run at each centre every year. ANKURAN, a two-month residential orientation, walks agripreneurs through ideation, customer discovery, business-model design, and venture finance, and pays a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000. PRASFUTAN puts early-stage grants of up to Rs. 25 lakh behind startups with validated prototypes, split 90% grant and 10% founder contribution. SRIJAN helps agricultural-university students carry ideas toward commercialisation. The remit stays within agriculture and allied sectors, spanning farm-input innovation, post-harvest tech, food processing, dairy, fisheries, animal husbandry, agri-fintech, agri-supply chain, precision agriculture, agri-biotech, and rural livelihoods, with PRASFUTAN needing an incorporated entity and a working prototype while ANKURAN and SRIJAN welcome idea-stage applicants. Since 2018-19, the network has incubated 2,000-plus agri-startups, disbursed over Rs. 150 crore in grants, and reached all 28 states.
