OctaNE CoE Aizawl is a Centre of Excellence under Software Technology Parks of India, set up at STPI Aizawl in Mizoram with a focus on gaming and entertainment. It forms part of STPI's wider OctaNE initiative, an internetworked cluster of eight Centres of Excellence across India's North-East built to seed, nurture, and grow technology-led startups beyond the traditional metros. Established under STPI's Guwahati Directorate to tap local creative talent in animation, gaming, AR and VR, and digital entertainment, it is funded as part of an OctaNE programme worth Rs. 68.76 crore, of which Rs. 61.89 crore comes from MeitY and Rs. 6.87 crore from STPI.
Its flagship intake is the OctaNE Open Challenge Program, a recurring cohort-based challenge for founders working on gaming, animation, VFX, AR and VR, esports, and digital-entertainment products. Selected startups enter a structured incubation that pairs technology infrastructure with mentoring and direct seed funding, and the package runs to seed grants, a specialised gaming-and-entertainment lab, plug-and-play space with high-speed connectivity, cloud services and software access, mentoring from industry leaders (Pete Draper, CEO of Makuta Effects, serves as Chief Mentor for the gaming-and-entertainment CoE), IPR support, marketing help, and demo-day connects with investors and corporates. Across all eight North-East OctaNE centres, STPI has incubated 257-plus startups, supported 51 working prototypes, and helped commercialise 217 products.
