Once known as 500 Startups, 500 Global is a San Francisco venture firm and seed accelerator started in 2010 by Dave McClure and Christine Tsai. It has since become one of the busiest early-stage investors anywhere, with portfolio companies spread across more than 80 countries and several funds and accelerator programmes running in parallel.
The firm wears two hats at once. It writes pre-seed and seed cheques as a VC, and it runs structured accelerator batches that pair that capital with mentorship, operational training, and warm paths to follow-on investors, an approach that lowers the barrier for first-time founders in emerging markets.
