Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech sector (PRIP)
by Department of Pharmaceuticals
Government of India's Rs. 5,000 crore PRIP scheme funds pharma and MedTech R&D, with project support of Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 5 crore.
About this scheme
PRIP, the scheme for Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech, is the Department of Pharmaceuticals' bid to turn India from a volume manufacturer into a genuine research and development centre for medicines and medical devices. It sets out to speed up the discovery, development, and commercialisation of new drugs, encourage device innovation, knit together industry and academia, and pull the sector's growth model away from low-cost production toward original innovation.
The programme is sized at Rs. 5,000 crore overall, with equity-free support to individual projects running from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 5 crore. A defined slice goes to Strategic Priority Innovations, meaning products and technologies that tackle public-health problems the open market tends to ignore, such as neglected tropical diseases, rare diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. Applications were handled through the official portal at prip.pharma-dept.gov.in; the most recent round closed on 10 November 2025, so prospective applicants should check the portal for any future window.
