About this scheme
iDEX Prime Re-Open is a high-value defence innovation challenge launched under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), Ministry of Defence. This re-launch features two advanced problem statements issued by the Indian Air Force (IAF), aimed at developing mission-critical defence technologies through collaboration with MSMEs, startups, and individual innovators.
Under the iDEX Prime category, selected innovators qualify for grant support of up to Rs. 10 crore to develop and demonstrate advanced prototype systems aligned with operational requirements. The first challenge focuses on the development of a UAS-based Electronic Support Measures (ESM) system for SIGINT operations in hilly terrain and high-altitude areas. The system is expected to integrate tethered drones mounted on vehicle platforms, ELINT payloads, encrypted SATCOM data transmission, real-time localisation of adversary electronic warfare emitters, and operational capability up to 4 km AMSL. The expected project outcome is a fully integrated vehicle-based SIGINT system capable of enhancing electronic warfare capabilities in near real-time operational scenarios.
The second challenge under iDEX Prime X seeks the development of an inflatable or modular all-weather sun shelter for fighter aircraft and helicopters. The solution must be rapidly deployable, modular, transportable across difficult terrain, resistant to harsh weather, fire-retardant, thermally insulated, and equipped with HVAC systems. It must also incorporate features to reduce enemy satellite-based surveillance exposure. The shelter should support operations up to 4.5 km AMSL and be scalable for larger aircraft classes.
Through structured evaluation, pitch sessions, and milestone-based monitoring, iDEX Prime enables the development of strategic indigenous defence technologies with significant operational impact. The program strengthens India's defence innovation ecosystem by supporting high-value, deep-tech solutions aligned with national security priorities.
