The BFI-BIOME & IIT Kanpur Bioinnovation Program invites innovators and impact-driven startups in healthcare innovation (medical devices, diagnostics, and biopharma) to apply for Cohort 2. This initiative aims to expedite the trajectory of healthcare innovators through two funding tracks: a Fellowship providing monthly support of up to Rs. 50,000 for individual innovators (6-9 months) and a Kickstarter Initiative offering grant support of up to Rs. 10 lakhs for biomedical startups. The program offers comprehensive support including access to IIT Kanpur's labs/equipment, workshops, skill development, networking, investor connections, and legal/IP support.
Who can apply
- For Fellowship (Individual Innovators):\n Nationality: Must be an Indian national.\n Age: Must be at least 21 years of age.\n Area of Work: Working in medical devices, in-vitro diagnostic devices, or surgical technology, preferably at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1-3.\n Educational Qualification: Minimum of four years of formal education in sciences or engineering disciplines, following 10+2 qualification.\n Commitment: Willing to work full-time during the fellowship period and not drawing remuneration from other sources concurrently.\n Incubation: Willing to incubate their company with SIIC IIT Kanpur as per institutional policies.\n\nFor Kickstarter Initiative (Startups):\n Registration in India: Registered within the territory of India within the preceding seven years.\n Equity Ownership: Minimum 51% equity held by Indian citizens.\n Focus: Pursuing development of a product or technology in medical devices, in-vitro diagnostic devices, and surgical technology with potential for substantial societal impact on healthcare in India.\n Technological Maturity Level: Product or technology with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 3 or higher.\n Incubation Partnership: Willingness to participate in the incubation program offered by SIIC IIT Kanpur.\n Commercialization Strategy: Must present a clearly defined roadmap outlining the path to commercialization.\n\nBasic Eligibility (common):\n Applicants/startups should be working in relevant healthcare technology domains.\n Selected participants must be willing to incubate with SIIC IIT Kanpur as per institutional policies.
